Overview
I designed and developed this Employee App for one of the largest ferry operators in the world. It streamlines internal communications and company materials, acting as a single source of truth to enhance the employee journey. I played a key role in shaping the user experience, designing and evolving the platform into a modern, user-centered tool.
Challenge
Fragmented communication tools and an outdated intranet made it difficult for employees, especially seafarers, to efficiently access essential information. The client needed a unified platform to centralise communication and resources, improve digital adoption, and engage employees regardless of their technical skills, language, or location.
My Role
I worked side by side with the Product Owner, leading the user research, the conceptualisation and development phases, working with the CMS Staffbase to bring the vision to life. Additionally, I facilitated user education, created e-learning courses and guidelines, and drove platform adoption, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.

Process
Conducting in-depth user research
To understand users' needs and challenges, I conducted comprehensive research through interviews and surveys. This process helped us identify key personas and their specific requirements, ensuring the app effectively addresses real user pain points and preferences.
Gathering Requirements
I facilitated workshops and meetings with stakeholders to gather essential requirements for the app. This collaborative approach ensured that we aligned our goals with the broader business objectives while incorporating diverse perspectives. The insights gained during these sessions were invaluable in shaping the app’s features and functionalities.
Building an MVP
I built a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that focused on core functionalities for both end-users and content managers. This initial version allowed us to launch quickly and gather feedback, ensuring we addressed the most critical user needs while laying a foundation for future enhancements.
Evolving Continuously
Following the MVP launch, we adopted an iterative approach to development. Regular user feedback sessions and data analysis guided our updates, enabling us to refine features and introduce new ones based on user preferences and emerging needs.
Outcome
This Employee App has significantly improved internal communication and resource accessibility, resulting in higher employee satisfaction and engagement. By continuously evolving the platform, we have created a tool that not only meets diverse user needs but also adapts to future challenges.
What made it memorable?
While solving a complex challenge was satisfying, what truly made this project special were the people. Collaborating with experts from multiple departments was truly educational. The hundreds of the ferry operator employees I had the pleasure to meet, interview, and support opened my eyes to new perspectives. From seafarers to port and office staff, their stories broadened my view in ways I’ll always carry with me.
